James Grant argues for the introduction of a new gold standard in light of the costs of maintaining a paper dollar standard. Monetary policy in the United States and elsewhere has undermined confidence in paper currencies and disrupted price mechanisms. He also explores speculation, inflation, and other intended and unintended consequences ahead.

James Grant is the founder of Grant’s Interest Rate Observer and a founding general partner of Nippon Partners, a hedge fund that invests in Japan. He is the author of five books on finance and financial history, including Mr. Market Miscalculates: The Bubble Years and Beyond. Mr. Grant’s television appearances include “60 Minutes,” “NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” “CBS Evening News,” and a 10-year stint on “Wall $treet Week.” His journalism career began at the Baltimore Sun, and he has since been published in numerous periodicals, including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Foreign Affairs. Mr. Grant holds an MA degree in international relations from Columbia University.
